The Kaçkar Mountains embody the spirit of the Black Sea. They harbour perhaps the best example of traditional Turkish life. People are industrious, persistent and cut off from the modern hustle and bustle by the immense natural obstacles that at the same time form the spectacular backdrop against which their lives take place. With its lush valleys clad with flowers, snow covered peaks, the little lakes which shine like jewels under the sun and with its passionate, friendly people the Kaçkar region is very special indeed. Music from the goat skin and bag pipes as well as folk dancing form an inseparable part of the camp fire meetings.
